Cast Iron Ford Case Identification
Cast Iron Ford transmissions can be identified by the letter code on the tag which is located on the side of the transmission case. The codes shown below reference the letter codes from the case.
Cases can also be identified by the case measurement from front to back, not including the bell housing or rear pump section.

FMX units are very similar to a Small Case, but they are not the same.
FMX units do not have a rear pump, and the filler tube goes into
the case (not the oil pan).
